Job Summary: The Graphics Department Production Assistant is responsible for supporting the production and installation of high-quality graphic materials in a fast-paced shop environment. This hands-on role focuses entirely on the physical preparation, assembly, finishing, and application of vinyl graphics and related materials. The Production Assistant works closely with the Graphics team to ensure thatall jobs are completed accurately, on time, and to the company’s qualitystandards. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow established processes, and a willingness to learn technical skills related to printing, cutting, laminating, and applying graphics to various vehicle and signage surfaces.
Responsibilities & Duties:
· Graphic Production: Assist in the production of vinyl graphics by operating equipment such as large-format printers, plotters, and laminators. Weed, mask, and prepare graphics for installation.
· Installation Support: Aid in the application of graphics to vehicles, signs, and other surfaces as directed by the lead installer or designer. Assist with surface preparation and post-install procedures
· Material Handling & Prep: Organize, label, and prep graphic materials for jobs. Ensure proper storage of vinyl rolls, lamination film, and masking tape to prevent damage or contamination.
· Inventory Management: Track inventory levels for vinyl, ink, and other consumables. Notify management when supplies are low and assist in receiving and stocking new materials.
· Quality Control Assistance: Perform visual checks on printed and cut graphics to identify imperfections, bubbles, or misalignments. Flag issues for correction before final application.
· Shop Maintenance: Keep production and install areas clean and organized. Perform routine cleaning of machines and tools to ensure efficient and safe operation.
· Job Documentation: Label and organize completed jobs for pickup or install. Record job details and maintain internal tracking sheets when required.
· Team Collaboration: Work closely with designers and installers to meet production deadlines and ensure smooth project flow.
Essential Functions:
· Production Execution: Operate production equipment including wide-format printers, vinyl cutters, laminators, and related tools to accurately produce printed and cut materials.
· Install Prep & Finishing: Perform essential prep work such as weeding, masking, labeling, and organizing vinyl graphics for application to vehicles, signage, and other surfaces.
· Attention to Detail: Carefully inspec tprinted and finished graphics for accuracy, alignment, defects, and overall quality before moving to installation or delivery.
· Equipment Maintenance: Assist with routine cleaning and maintenance of machines and tools to ensure proper operation and longevity.
· Time & Workflow Management: Stay on task and maintain pace with production schedules. Communicate status updates and assist with prioritizing jobs to meet internal deadlines.
· Physical Stamina: Frequently lift, carry, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods while performing physical production and installation support duties.
Qualification and Skills:
· Experience: Previous experience in a production or shop environment is preferred, especially in signage, vinyl, automotive, or graphics-related industries, but not required. Willing to train the right candidate with a strong work ethic.
· Technical Skills: Basic understanding of production equipment such as printers, plotters, laminators, and hand tools ishelpful. Comfort with learning machinery and shop workflows.
· Manual Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for tasks like weeding vinyl, masking, and handling delicate materials.
· Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly while working in a hands-on, active environment.
· Attention to Detail: Must be detail-oriented and committed to producing clean, accurate, and professional results.
· Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, work efficiently, and stay focused to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
· Team Collaboration: Works well with others, follows direction, and communicates effectively with installers, designers, and shop staff.
· Adaptability: Willingness to learn new tools and techniques and adapt to changing priorities or projects.
· Work Ethic: Dependable, punctual, and takes pride in doing high-quality work. Willing to take initiative and assist wherever needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct reports or any level of supervision.
Work Environment:
· Physical Setting: Primarily based in a design studio with access to production facilities.
· Physical Demands: Physical activity is required, particularly when handling and preparing materials for production.
· Environmental Factors: Exposure to ink and other materials used in printing.
· Noise Level: Moderate noise from design and production equipment.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
· Employment Type: This is a part-time position.
· Work Schedule: Three full workdays per week. The scheduled days are flexible and will be coordinated based on shop needs and candidate availability. Standard hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
· Overtime: Overtime opportunities are available as the work schedule demands and will be compensated accordingly.
Travel:
· General Travel Requirements: Travel fort his position is generally limited. Most work is conducted on-site at our facility.
· Events and Training: Occasional overnight travel may be required to attend industry events, training sessions, or other professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated withindustry trends.
