Job Summary: The Automotive Detailer is responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are meticulously cleaned, polished,and prepared to meet Blue Collar Customs’ high standards of quality before delivery to the customer. This role involves both interior and exterior detailing, including washing, vacuuming, polishing, buffing, and applying protective coatings. The Detailer will also assist with final inspections and support the production team by preparing demo vehicles and customer units for delivery. Attention to detail, efficiency, and pride in craftsmanship are essential qualities for success in this role.
Responsibilities & Duties:
· Exterior Cleaning and Polishing: Wash and dry vehicle exteriors, remove surface contaminants, and apply wax or polish to restore shine and protect paint. Use clay bars, buffers, and polishers asneeded.
· Interior Detailing: Vacuum seats,carpets, and floor mats; clean and condition dash boards, door panels, and upholstery. Ensure all surfaces are free of dust, smudges, and stains.
· Glass and Mirror Cleaning: Clean interior and exterior glass surfaces, including windows, mirrors, and display screens,to ensure streak-free clarity.
· Final Vehicle Inspection: Conduct a finalquality control check after detailing and upfitting to ensure the vehicle isready for delivery. Address any cosmetic issues before the vehicle leaves the facility.
· Protective Coating Application: Apply paint sealants, ceramic coatings, or fabric protectants as specified by workorder or customer request. Follow proper application procedures to ensure optimal results.
· Post-Install Clean-Up: Remove plastic wrap, install covers, clean adhesive residue, and ensure all touch points are free of finger prints or dust following installation work.
· Work Bay Maintenance: Keep the detailing area clean and organized. Perform light cleaning duties through out the shop and maintain supplies of chemicals and materials.
· Safe Vehicle Movement: Move vehicles in and out of bays or the lot in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to internal safety policies and traffic rules.
Essential Functions:
· Maintain High Standards of Cleanliness: Consistently produce high-quality detailing results that meet or exceed company expectations for vehicle presentation.
· Follow Detailed Work Orders: Interpret and follow written or verbal instructions regarding detailing tasks, coatings to be applied, or special customer requests.
· Operate Detailing Equipment Safely: Use buffers, extractors, pressure washers, vacuums, and hand tools according to manufacturer guidelines and company safety policies.
· Work Independently and Efficiently: Complete tasks with minimal supervision while managing time effectively in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
· Support Cross-Department Communication: Collaborate with upfit, graphics, and sales teams to ensure vehicles are cleaned and ready on schedule for delivery or demonstration.
· Identify and Report Vehicle Issues: Notify supervisors of any scratches, dents, or abnormalities noticed during the detailing process that could affect customer satisfaction.
· Handle Multiple Projects Simultaneously: Balance the demands of multiple vehicles in various stages of completion while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
· Lift, Bend, and Perform Physical Tasks: Carry out the physical demands of the job, including bending, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 50 lbs. regularly.
Qualification and Skills:
· Detailing Experience Preferred: Prior experience in automotive detailing, reconditioning, or a similar role is a plus but not required. Willing to train the right candidate with a strong work ethic.
· Strong Attention to Detail: Ability to spot and correct minor imperfections. Commitment to delivering vehicles in pristine condition inside and out.
· Basic Automotive Knowledge: General understanding of vehicle components and surfaces, including proper care methods for paint, upholstery, plastics, and glass.
· Time Management Skills: Capable ofworking efficiently under deadlines while maintaining high quality standards and prioritizing tasks effectively.
· Team-Oriented Attitude: Willingness to work closely with other departments, communicate clearly, and help out where needed to meet production goals.
· Physical Stamina: Ability to perform repetitive motions, work on your feet all day, and lift or move heavy items such as vacuums, buffers, or detailing supplies.
· Valid Driver’s License: Must hold a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record for moving vehicles on and off the lot.
· Willingness to Learn: Openness to training and learning new techniques, products, and procedures to stay aligned with company standards and evolving customer needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct reports or any level of supervision.
Work Environment:
· Fast-Paced Shop Setting: Work primarily takes place in a busy, production-oriented automotive shop environment where multiple vehicles are being prepared simultaneously.
· Indoor and Outdoor Work: Perform detailing tasks both inside the shop and occasionally outdoors depending on shop space, weather conditions, and project needs.
· Exposure to Chemicals and Equipment: Regularly work with cleaning agents, polishes, waxes, and detailing equipment. Proper safety gear, such as gloves and eye protection, is provided and must be used as required.
· Noise and Movement: Be comfortable working around shop noise from tools, machinery, and vehicle movement throughout the day.
· Physical Demands: Stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods. Lift and move supplies or equipment up to 50 lbs as part of daily work duties.
· Team Collaboration: Operate within a collaborative team environment where clear communication and flexibility are key to meeting production schedules.
· Attention to Shop Cleanliness: Share responsibility for maintaining a clean, organized, and professional workspace, contributing to overall shop presentation and efficiency.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
· Employment Type: This is a full-time position.
· Work Schedule: The normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
· Overtime: Overtime opportunities areavailable as the work schedule demands and will be compensated accordingly.
Travel:
· General Travel Requirements: Travel for this position is generally limited. Most work is conducted on-site at our facility.
· Events and Training: Occasional overnight travel may be required to attend industry events, training sessions, or other professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated withindustry trends.
